Footballer Quincy Promes is being prosecuted for importing over 1,300 kilos of cocaine. This is confirmed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office following reports in Het Parool.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it involves two batches, of about 650 kilos and 713 kilos. They were intercepted in the port of Antwerp in late January 2020.

According to the National Drug Monitor, the batches together would have accounted for some 75 million euros on the streets of Amsterdam at the time.

The former Ajax player and former Dutch national was already suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization. Next Monday is the pre-trial hearing.

Moscow

Promes plays for Russian club Spartak Moscow. If he does not come to the Netherlands, the case “may be heard by the court without his presence, but with a lawyer authorized by him for that purpose,” the prosecutor’s office reported.

Promes’ lawyer Robert Malevicz does not yet want to comment substantively. “I will do that at next Monday’s hearing,” he said.

Stabbing

In another case, Promes is suspected of aggravated assault. He allegedly stabbed his cousin in the knee at a family party. Promes has always denied this, but in phone calls intercepted by police, he confessed to the stabbing.

Justice previously suspected him of attempted manslaughter, but did not consider that proven. Last March, the court reopened the investigation in this criminal case. The final part of the case will also be heard next Monday.
