Shachtar Donetsk grabs national title and thanks armed forces: ‘Long live Ukraine’

NOS Football–
Shachtar Donetsk has become national champions in the first full season after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. Shachtar won 3-0 over number two Dnipro-1 in the second-to-last round of play.
Former Ajacied Lassina Traoré is part of Shachtar’s selection, but did not participate in the championship match due to a thigh injury.
Shachtar thanked the armed forces after winning the championship “because thanks to them we can play soccer in our homeland. Long live Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian league was not finished last year because of the war that broke out in February 2022. Shachtar was then on top after 18 matches. No champion was declared, but Shachtar was allowed to enter Europe.
Feyenoord played Sjachtar in the Europa League eighth finals in March. The Rotterdammers went through after a draw (1-1) and a win (7-1).
