FC Utrecht defeated FC Emmen at home on the final day (3-2). Tasos Douvikas scored once, making the Greek the top scorer of the Eredivisie together with Xavi Simons of PSV with nineteen goals.
Both teams will still play in different playoffs next week, Utrecht for a European ticket and Emmen for a spot in the premier league. Nevertheless, neither team held back. Emmen coach Dick Lukkien did rest several players with an eye on the two duels with NAC Breda.
Douvikas third Greek top scorer after Machlas and Giakoumakis: ‘Very nice’
Mike van der Hoorn gave Utrecht the lead after only two minutes. The home team continued to dominate, got chances, but still gave away the lead ten minutes before time. Ole Romeny equalized for the Drenten.
Ten Utrechters don’t give up
Just under ten minutes after halftime, Utrecht took the lead for the second time. This time striker Tasos Douvikas was the finishing touch. Utrecht could not enjoy the lead for long. Five minutes later Mark Diemers equalized again.
Shortly after this equalizer, Van der Hoorn received a red card when he stepped on Jasin-Amin Assehnoun’s foot. The ten Utrechters did not give up and captain Viergever headed the 3-2 against the ropes after a corner.
