In addition, the clause for the summer of 2024, in which Slot could leave for an agreed amount, is not included in the new contract.

Slot extends at Feyenoord through 2026: ‘Talking to several clubs’

“The deciding factor was playing Champions League, the fantastic work with the staff and players, the fact that I am enjoying myself privately tremendously and being able to build on the past two seasons,” Slot said.

The successful coach’s name has been frequently associated with Tottenham Hotspur recently. Slot would not name names, but did say that several clubs have shown interest and that he has also spoken with two clubs.

Knot cut

Slot said he started thinking about his future the day after the inauguration on Coolsingel. Last Tuesday, he tied the knot. He communicated that decision to his business manager Rafaela Pimenta and to Feyenoord director Dennis te Kloese, who met Wednesday.

“I want to emphasize that prior to Wednesday’s negotiations, it was indicated that, regardless of whether or not the contract would be extended, I would stay anyway,” Slot told them.

“That is to prevent any sounds from surfacing that I would have abused the interest of other clubs. I don’t think I needed that either, because the performances I’ve had here to date give enough reason to get a good contract, which I already had and still have now.”

Slot did not consider giving a definite answer about his future earlier. “I didn’t know yet what would happen. I weighed all kinds of things, including whether the people who work with me would want to go with me. You can think something about it, but then I don’t think it’s chic to say: my intention is to stay. Because you’re already raising an expectation with that.”

Unlike last year, Slot expects Feyenoord’s selection to remain largely intact. He said he sees a lot of sporting perspective at the Rotterdam club, which will play in the Champions League next season.
