Orange under 17 also fails to win last EC group game: draw against Croatia

In a game that was no longer about anything, Croatia was better in the first ten minutes. After a few dangerous moments, the Orange seemed awakened and started to play stronger.

Lat and post

After more than twenty minutes, left back Mats Rots had a great chance. He combined with striker Jesse Bal, got the ball back and hit the crossbar with his instep. Just before halftime, Jasper Hartog was also close to a goal, but his effort bounced wide via the post.

In the second half, Croatia started sharper. Two chances were foiled by Dutch goalkeeper Kiyani Zeggen Lieuw Kie Song.

Suddenly after that, it was 1-0 for the Orange. A long ball from behind was misjudged by goalkeeper Josip Cundeković. Ball took advantage and did not fail in front of an open goal.

Childishly easy, the Orange, who had several chances to extend the score, got the equalizer. Defender Noa Mikic crossed hard and Ljubo Puljić was free to shoot in. Despite several opportunities for both teams, no more goals were scored.

A paltry point

Orange under 17 travel back home with one paltry point. This European Championship brings an end to a series of five European Championships in which the Dutch did survive the group stage.

In 2016, the semifinals were the finish line, in 2017 the quarterfinals and in 2022 a final place. In 2018 and 2019, the title was captured.
