AZ supporters not welcome at NEC after West Ham riots: ‘Fears repeat’

AZ supporters are not welcome at Sunday’s away match in the premier league against NEC. This was decided by Mayor Hubert Bruls of Nijmegen after the riots at AZ-West Ham United last Thursday.

According to the local triangle, the low-key nature of the disturbances in Alkmaar makes them fear a repeat in Nijmegen. “We regret the decision not to admit AZ supporters tomorrow, but after consultation with the local triangle we also have understanding for the decision,” said Wilco van Schaik, general director of NEC.

“It hurts that well-meaning supporters have to suffer because of some malicious ones,” the director said.
