Kika van Es has ended her career after fourteen seasons at the highest level. This is reported by her club PSV on its website. Van Es wore the shirt of the Dutch national team 77 times, with which she became the European champion in 2017.

The 31-year-old defender played a total of five seasons for the club from Eindhoven. Her last game was the cup final, in which PSV lost 4-0 to FC Twente on Friday. She also played for Willem II, VVV-Venlo, Ajax , FC Twente and Everton. With FC Twente she captured the national title twice.

Best choice

One of the highlights of Van Es’ career is, of course, the European Championship. “When I look at those images, I get goosebumps right away. I am so happy with those images. You want to show those to everyone for years to come,” she reflects in AD.

Van Es returned to PSV last summer. Earlier this month it was announced that her contract in Eindhoven would not be renewed. “It’s the best choice, but it’s never a nice decision after such a career,” Van Es said.
