Orange international Esmee Brugts is leaving PSV. According to PSV, the 19-year-old attacker is “opting for a new step in her career.” Brugts has become a regular in the national team as a left wing defender under national coach Andries Jonker.

The South Holland native played 75 games for PSV in three years. This season she scored eight goals in 15 premier league matches.

Brugts has indicated a desire to leave, according to the Eindhoven club. It is not yet known for which club she will play soccer. Next summer Brugts will participate with the Dutch national team in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

PSV could not compete for the title in the premier league this season, finishing in fourth place. PSV can, however, win the KNVB Cup on Ascension Day (next Thursday). Coach Rick de Rooij’s team will take on FC Twente in the final in The Hague.

A few days later, PSV plays in the tournament for the Eredivisie Cup against national champions Ajax. Afterwards, the club says goodbye to the players who leave or quit.

Besides Brugts, these include Kika van Es, Mandy van den Berg and ‘Miss PSV’ Jeslynn Kuijpers, who has played for PSV since the Brabant women’s team was founded in 2012. Kuijpers made 255 appearances for the club.
