Excelsior took an important point by playing a 0-0 draw at sc Heerenveen. The Kralingers have thus ceded the sixteenth place, which would mean nacompetitie, at least for a day to FC Emmen, which visits AZ on Sunday.
The match at the Abe Lenstra Stadium could only rarely charm. The pace was slow, both teams played sloppy and the number of chances could be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Nothing happened for a long time before halftime. Only in the closing stages of the first half did Excelsior become somewhat dangerous and at the other end Sydney van Hooijdonk was close to a Frisian goal.

It did not come, making Excelsior’s eighth consecutive failure to score in an away league game. Excelsior’s last Premier League goal outside Woudestein predates the World Cup. Kenzo Goudmijn opened the scoring against Feyenoord (5-1 loss) in the 4th minute on Nov. 13.
