Sanchez presents award to Nancy Pelosi and praises her defense of democracy

The head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, has praised on Thursday the courage of the former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi in her defense of democracy. and which she said makes her worthy of the decoration awarded to her by Spain.

Pelosi has received from the hands of Sánchez the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholicawarded by the Spanish Government, among other reasons, for “breaking the glass ceilings” by being the first woman to become Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The award ceremony was held at the residence of the Spanish ambassador to the United States on the occasion of Sánchez’s presence in Washington to meet this Friday with U.S. President Joe Biden.


The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and the Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, at a press conference in Washington.

In his speech at this event, closed to the press and the first on the agenda of his visit to Washington, D.C.Sanchez highlighted Pelosi’s courage and perseverance in her defense of democracy and women’s rights.

She also highlighted her work to strengthen relations between Spain and the United States and build bridges between diverse cultures.
