Jakobsen wins second stage of Tour of Hungary and takes over leader’s jersey from Groenewegen
Fabio Jakobsen has won the second stage in the Tour of Hungary. The Soudal Quick-Step rider was the fastest in the 175-kilometer flat stage (from Zalaegerszeg to Keszthely) in the bunch sprint, taking over the leader’s jersey from Dylan Groenewegen, who won the first stage.
The last escapees were caught by the peloton well before the finale and then the sprinters’ teams prepared their trains. DSM (with sprint ace Casper van Uden) had the best papers in the final kilometer for a long time, but in the wet finish street Jakobsen cleverly wriggled to the front.
Van Uden finished fourth, just ahead of Maikel Zijlaard. Groenewegen played no significant role. For Jakobsen, it was his third day victory of the season.
The Tour of Hungary began yesterday and will last through Sunday.
