The United States is on track to record its bloodiest year ever for shootings after one such incident on Saturday at a Texas shopping mall raised the number of mass shootings to 199 so far this year.

The rate at which mass shootings are occurring in the U.S. this year is also has far exceeded that of recent years.according to data from the Archive of Armed Violence.

As stated in the Daily Mailthe count surpassed the ominous milestone of more than 100 mass shootings last March 5almost two weeks before the date on which the figure was reached in 2022.

At least 74 people have been killed or injured in school shootings, including the mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, in late March.

Texas alone has had at least 12 mass shootings.s in 2023, including the latest on Saturday in Allen County, which left eight people and the shooter dead, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings of the year.

Definition of ‘mass shooting’

The Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a non-profit research database that tracks shootings in the U.S., defines a ‘mass shooting’ as one with a minimum number of four victims, wounded or killed, not including the shooter.

‘Mass shootings’ include. firearms incidentsarmed robberies, family murders, home invasions and assaults, among others.

To date, 14,672 people have died in 2023. due to gun violence, including more than 8,000 people by suicide by firearm, as well as more than 6,000 who were victims of homicide, murder, and unintentional shootings.
