Right after his successful comeback, Memphis Depay has been injured again. The Oranje striker suffered a calf injury during training at his club Atlético Madrid.

Depay is missing from the squad for tonight’s league match against Cadiz in any case. It is unclear how long he will be out.

“Memphis is receiving physiotherapy and, pending developments, will undergo recovery training,” Atlético reported with a standard sentence in the press release. According to Spanish media, there is a chance he will not be back in action this season, or perhaps only on the last day of play.

Solo from own half

On Sunday, Depay made his comeback after suffering a hamstring injury with the Dutch national team in March. He played 12 minutes against Real Valladolid (2-5 win) and scored with a clever solo from his own half.

On Tuesday at training, the 29-year-old striker suffered pain in his right calf. He immediately ended the practice session and went to the locker room accompanied by a doctor.

Since Depay made the switch from Barcelona to Atlético in January, he has suffered many injuries. The striker played only eight league matches, in which he scored four goals. Atlético is battling city rival Real Madrid for second place in La Liga.

On June 14, the Dutch national team will return to action. Croatia will then be the opponent in the Nations League semifinals.
