FC Twente after victory over PEC Zwolle back in the lead
The title fight in the women’s premier league is approaching an exciting apotheosis. The FC Twente women won 2-0 at PEC Zwolle a week before the topper against Ajax. This puts Twente back on top of the premier league.
Former PEC player Marit Auèe put Twente ahead early in Zwolle, after which PEC Zwolle goalkeeper Tess van der Flier prevented a second Twente goal before halftime with a save on a shot by Elena Dhont. On behalf of the home team, Leonie Vliek shot hard at the post.
In the second half, Renate Jansen doubled the score for Twente from outside the penalty area after all, and the Toppers could breathe a little calmer.
Replacing Dhont, Anna-Lena Stolze made her comeback for Twente in the 70th minute after months of injury. She almost crowned her comeback with a goal, but hit the crossbar.
Senne van de Velde and Vliek still fired at the Twente goal, but Orange goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar always had to answer.
With a win next week in the topper against Ajax in Amsterdam, reigning champion FC Twente takes the title again. Should Ajax win or draw, the title fight will be decided a week later in the 21st round of matches with FC Twente-Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle-Ajax on the program.
