NBCUniversal chief resigns after admitting ‘inappropriate relationship’ with female employee

The top executive of media and entertainment group NBCUniversal, Jeff Shellannounced on Sunday that he is leaving the company following an internal investigation in response to a “inappropriate relationship” he had with a female employee.

“Today is my last day as CEO of NBCUniversal. I had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the company, who I deeply regret.”Shell said in a brief statement issued by Comcast, the company’s owner.

According to Comcast, the executive’s departure is by mutual agreement and takes immediate effect.

“I am truly sorry to have disappointed my colleagues at Comcast and NBCUniversal, they are the most talented people in the business and the opportunity to work with them for the past 19 years has been a privilege,” Shell said.

The company gave no further details about the episode leading to the CEO’s departure beyond that an investigation led by an outside expert was conducted in response to an allegation of misconduct.

For now, Comcast has not announced who will replace Shell. at the helm of NBCUniversal, one of the largest media and entertainment conglomerates in the United States.

Shell had been at the helm of the company for a little more than three years, where he had previously held other senior positions.
