Mourinho teases NOS reporter Schreuder with Conference League key ring

José Mourinho had not forgotten about Joep Schreuder.

For the whole story, we have to go back to last week, when Feyenoord had won the first game. “The last 10 months you have been crying,” Mourinho said then in a private chat with Schreuder. He was referring to last year’s Conference League final lost by Feyenoord against AS Roma, which was much talked about ahead of the new showdown.

“But you shouldn’t cry. Do you know why not?”, Mourinho continued. “A match you have lost, you cannot win again. I promise you: if I lose, I’ll sleep well and I won’t have nightmares for ten months.”

After Thursday night’s 4-1 return win by Roma – after extension – it was time for Mourinho to return to his words in his very own way. “I have a present for you,” he said, before Schreuder could ask his first question.

And the Portuguese repeated his tip from last week: ‘”Don’t cry over defeat.”

Mourinho concluded the press conference in a serious tone. “Honestly, I want to congratulate Feyenoord. Really. Good team, good players, good coach, they are going to be champions. They made it very difficult for us.”
