End of season for Excelsior midfielder Fein due to metabolic disease

NOS Football–
Excelsior can no longer have Adrian Fein at their disposal this season. The German is struggling with a metabolic disease.
The career of Fein, who played on loan from PSV in the 2020/2021 season, does not appear to be in jeopardy. Former PSV player Mario Götze suffered from a similar disease and has fully recovered.
The 24-year-old midfielder made the switch from Bayern Munich’s second team last summer. He played 15 games for Excelsior this season.
“I have noticed for some time that my body is not as it should be and I am happy that the cause has now been found,” Fein explained. “I am in good medical hands and am confident that I will be back on the field soon.”
‘He lacks strength’
“Adrian already noticed earlier this season that he lacked strength, but always tried to keep training intensively,” added Excelsior technical manager Niels van Duinen.
“His practitioner compares the disease to a car: if there is no gasoline in the tank, the engine cannot (continue) to start. His body has now, simply put for everyone, turned off its system and that’s why he needs treatment,” Van Duinen said.
