Feyenoord breaks open contract with Oranje international Wieffer until 2027

NOS Football–
Feyenoord have decided to sign Mats Wieffer for longer. The 23-year-old midfielder’s contract ran until the summer of 2026, but with the new commitment he will be stuck in Rotterdam until mid-2027.
Things have moved quickly for Wieffer at De Kuip over the past year. Last summer he made the switch from Excelsior to Feyenoord and three months ago he made his first start.
He then emerged as a regular in Arne Slot’s team and was also called up for the Dutch national team. Last international period Wieffer was part of the Oranje squad and on March 27 he made his international debut against Gibraltar.
Important phase
“I have said many times that it has gone quickly and also feels a bit unreal sometimes,” Wieffer, good for the winning goal against AS Roma last week, responded on the club website. “With the team we are in a very important phase of the season and that makes that there is little time and space to dwell on it.”
Indeed, Wieffer is well on his way with Feyenoord to bringing the national championship back to Rotterdam for the first time since 2017. With five rounds of play to go, Feyenoord has an eight-point lead over number two Ajax.
