director fired for possible tampering

AS Roma has sacked general manager Pietro Berardi with immediate effect. The Italian club, next Thursday Feyenoord’s opponent in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, did so following an investigation into possible financial irregularities in transfers and the setting of transfer values.
“AS Roma has terminated all relations with Berardi with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement. Prosecutors seized several documents at the Roman club earlier this month.
Prosecutors also took documents from rival Lazio and Salernitana for investigation. AS Roma denies having done anything wrong and has promised all cooperation in the investigation. “We hope there will be full clarity in this case as soon as possible,” the club said.
Earlier investigation Juventus
The investigation at clubs in Italy follows an earlier one at Juventus. The Turin club has since been punished for not being honest about player transfer values in the past. Juventus had to surrender 15 points in Serie A, but has appealed. The fraud investigation against the club is ongoing.
AS Roma must make up for a 1-0 defeat at home against Feyenoord on Thursday.
