Super Mario Bros. Movie surpasses $500 million in worldwide box office: it is the most successful video game-based movie ever

Two weeks after its release in several countries around the world, Super Mario Bros. The Movie achieved a new box office record by also becoming the most successful movie based on a video game ever.
This was revealed by the website Variety, which reports that Super Mario Bros. The Movie has passed the $500 million mark in box office. To date, the animated adventure has earned $260.3 million in the United States and $248.4 million internationally. Total receipts, therefore, are around $508.7 million.
With this figure, Super Mario Bros. The Movie is the most successful film of 2023 at both the global and U.S. box office, surpassing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Also, as anticipated, the film is the most successful video game adaptation ever, surpassing the box office receipts of Warcraft and Detective Pikachu.
Among other notable milestones, Super Mario Bros. The Movie is now the second most successful animated film from 2019 in terms of worldwide box office, ahead of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train ($494 million) and succeeding Minions 2 – How Crane Becomes Badass ($942.5 million).
