The summary of FC Twente against Cambuur
In a duel that never became a match, FC Twente made mincemeat of straggler Cambuur. In a one-sided match, the Rotterdammers won 4-0. With the victory, the club from Enschede moves back over Sparta, which won handsomely at AZ on Saturday, to fifth place in the Eredivisie.
Twente immediately took a strong lead. After two minutes there was already a chance for the home side, but Michel Vlap worked the ball past goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter via Doke Schmidt. After barely seven minutes there was already a second chance for the home side. Václav Cerný came in well, but his shot sailed over the cross.
After twelve minutes, Twente did hit the target. Ricky van Wolfswinkel received the ball on a silver platter from Cerný. The striker shot the ball hard but controlled into the bottom corner: 1-0. After that opening goal, there were chances for Van Wolfswinkel and Virgil Misidjan, but it took until the 28th minute before another goal was scored.
It was Vlap who was at the end of a beautiful attack. The unfortunate midfielder, who has scored so often in the past for sc Heerenveen and Anderlecht, has not scored a single goal this season. In April of last year – 352 days ago – he last scored.
Even after the 2-0, Twente remained the superior side. Robin Pröpper and Vlap could have increased the lead even further, but Cambuur goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter twice stood in the way of the 3-0.
Yet procrastination did not come to an end. After 35 minutes Sem Steijn made it 3-0. As with Vlap’s goal, Gijs Smal was the instigator. Steijn also had a good chance to make it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time, but pushed the ball wide of the goal. Sjors Ultee’s team got away with a 3-0 halftime score.
Ultee intervened at halftime by making four substitutions. Whether it was the substitutions or the score, Twente took a bit of a breather after halftime. It was still the home team that was most threatening, but Cambuur actually got some opportunities.
For example, after almost an hour of play there was a good opportunity for substitute Roberts Uldrikis, but his effort was turned away by Lars Unnerstall.
Brama’s 300th
The first memorable moment in the second half came a quarter of an hour before time. Wout Brama was allowed to substitute and with his participation in this match reached the milestone of 300 league games for FC Twente. Brama filled in for Ramiz Zerrouki.
The former international’s substitution was not the last highlight of the match. After a truly magnificent attack, Joshua Brenet signed for the 4-0. The assist again came from Smal, who thus completed his hat-trick of assists….
Afterwards, Wout Brama was put in the limelight: he received a framed shirt with the number 300 on it. The 36-year-old midfielder was making his comeback after an injury and thus immediately played his anniversary match.
