FC Emmen took an important step in the battle for survival in the premier league. The men from Drenthe beat Excelsior 2-0 at home and thus pass the number fifteen of the league table.
The Rotterdammers, who suffered their fifth defeat in a row, may even end up below the relegation line if FC Groningen manages to surprise at AZ later today.
Emmen goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart saved the home club from an early deficit by defusing a diagonal cross from Couhaib Driouech with his foot. For a long time after that, there was little to experience at De Oude Meerdijk where fear (of defeat) reigned.
