North Korea accuses US of ‘intentionally’ generating tension through military exercises

North Korea has accused the U.S. on Tuesday of intentionally generating tension in the region.after Washington conducted military exercises with Seoul.

“Despite our repeated warnings, The U.S. continues to intentionally aggravate the situation on the Korean peninsula and the region,” reads a statement from the North Korean Foreign Ministry, reported by the agency KCNA.

The authorities of Pyongyang have indicated that “the recent joint air drill (…) clearly shows that the U.S. scheme for using nuclear weapons against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is being pursued at the level of an actual war.”

“The unbroken chain of U.S. provocative military actions against the DPRK. portends the aggressive nature of the U.S.-South Korea joint military drills. on a large scale, which will begin in a few days, and the severity of the catastrophic tension it will entail,” the missive continued.

The Ministry has also “strongly demanded. the immediate cessation of hostile military acts. that disturb peace and stability on the peninsula,” while calling on the international community to promote détente in the region.

The United States has carried out this Monday military maneuvers with a B-52H strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear bombs. in a joint exercise with the South Korean Armed Forces.

The South Korean Ministry of Defense, which has reported these maneuvers conducted in the Yellow Sea, said that they involved South Korean F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets also participated.according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Last Friday, the United States flew over the area with a B-1B bomber, also capable of delivering atomic bombs, in response to recent missile launches by North Korea.
