Depay shows Atlético the way with two goals, special anniversary Simeone

NOS Soccer–
Memphis Depay contributed with two goals in Atletico Madrid’s 6-1 win against Sevilla in the Spanish league.
The match was dominated by a special anniversary. Diegeo Simeone passed Luis Aragones as coach of the “Rojiblancos” who coached the most games. Aragones was on the bench 612 times at Atletico, the doggedly loyal ‘Cholo’ now stands at 613.
Depay, who had a starting place for the first time, gave his team a comfortable 2-0 lead early in the match. On his first goal, he slid the ball past Sevilla goalkeeper Bounou in a controlled manner after a fine cross from Antoine Griezmann; his second goal was a delicious shot from distance that he rammed into the crossbar. Youssef En Nesyri set the halftime score at 2-1.
After halftime, Antoine Griezmann made it 3-1 in very fine fashion. The Frenchman curled the ball into the far corner from a great distance. He celebrated his goal extensively with his jubilant coach.
Depay was substituted after more than an hour of play, as he left the field he was sung to by the supporters. The Dutch national team striker now stands at three goals after five games.
Score rises
Yannick Carrasco and Álvaro Morata (2) also made it 4-1, 5-1 and 6-1 for Atletico, in between Ivan Rakitić missed another penalty kick for Sevilla.
With the win, Simeone’s team rises to third place, one point above Real Sociedad. Number two Real Madrid has seven more points and one less game played.
