Klinsmann back in soccer as national coach South Korea, Scaloni longer with Argentina

Jürgen Klinsmann is returning to soccer after a three-year absence. The 58-year-old German will start work as the national coach of South Korea. He will sign a contract through the 2026 World Cup and will be presented at a press conference tomorrow.

The former top striker was previously national coach of Germany and the United States. In addition, Klinsmann was coach of German clubs Bayern Munich and Hertha BSC. In February 2020, he stepped down after only ten weeks in Berlin. Since then, Klinsmann has held no official position in soccer.

In South Korea, he succeeds Portuguese Paulo Bento, who led the Asian country to the eighth finals at the World Cup in Qatar. In those, Brazil was far too strong, 4-1. Klinsmann’s most successful predecessor is Guus Hiddink, who reached the semifinals of the World Cup with South Korea in 2002.

On March 24, Klinsmann sits on the Korean bench for the first time, in a practice match with Colombia. South Korea is seeded for the Asian Championship, to be held in Qatar this year.
