NOS Football–
With the elimination of PSV and Ajax, the Netherlands has only Feyenoord and AZ left in Europe. On Friday afternoon, both clubs will hear their next opponent at the draw in Nyon, Switzerland. Feyenoord is in the eighth finals of the Europa League, AZ is in the last sixteen of the Conference League.
As group winners, Feyenoord were directly qualified for the eighth finals, as were Arsenal, Fenerbahçe, Real Betis, Union Saint-Gilloise, Real Sociedad, SC Freiburg and Ferencváros. These teams are all seeded at the draw, which begins at noon.
In the eighth finals, Feyenoord will meet one of the winners of the intermediate round. Possible opponents include Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. A reunion with AS Roma, last season’s opponent of the Rotterdammers in the Conference League final, is also possible.
AZ, as a group winner in the Conference League, enters the tube as one of the seeded teams with Istanbul Basaksehir, West Ham United, Villarreal, OGC Nice, Djurgårdens, Sivasspor and Slovan Bratislava. The draw for the Conference League begins at 1 p.m.
Among the winners of the matches in the intermediate round and thus possible opponents of AZ, two Belgian teams emerged on Thursday. Anderlecht was too strong for Loedogorets thanks to three stopped penalty kicks by Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen and AA Gent beat Qarabag after penalty kicks.
The only restriction in the draw is that clubs from the same country cannot play against each other. The eighth finals will be finished on March 9 and 16 and the group winners will play the first match away.
The Europa League final will be played on May 31 in Budapest, Hungary. The final match of the Conference League is scheduled for June 7 in Prague.
