Real Madrid mourns death of club icon Amancio (83)

Real Madrid mourns the passing of Amancio Amaro Varela. The club’s former player turned 83.
Right winger Amancio began his career at Deportivo La Coruna and moved to Real Madrid in 1962. He played fourteen seasons for the Royal, became Spanish champion nine times, won the European Cup 1 in 1966 and took the European title with his country in 1964.
Period as coach
Amancio was also a trainer at Real for a short time. Although he did not achieve great success, he became champion with the second team (which included Emilio Butragueno, Míchel and Manolo Sanchis).
Amancio joined the Real board in 2000, holding various positions.
