Real books simple win after world title, Benzema enters history books

Real Madrid followed up winning the World Cup for clubs well. For the Spanish league, straggler Elche was easily brushed aside at home: 4-0.
The match was only played tonight because Real was in Morocco last week for the World Cup. The Madrilenians won Saturday’s final 5-3 over Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia.
With the victory over Elche, Real has closed the gap on leaders FC Barcelona to eight points again. Elche remains disconsolately at the bottom with nine points. All other matches of the 21st round of play had been played earlier.
Real Madrid had absolutely no need to go to extremes. It was one-way traffic from the first minute. After just eight minutes, the ball was in the net for the first time. Marco Asensio shot from the edge of the penalty area after an excellent individual action (1-0).
After half an hour, Real doubled the score. Karim Benzema exploited a penalty given after a handball (2-0). Fifteen minutes later, Benzema shot again from eleven yards (3-0). The penalty was given on this occasion because Rodrygo was floored.
In the second half, Real took it easier. Nevertheless, they still scored once. Luka Modric fired a beautiful shot from sixteen yards (4-0) ten minutes before the end.
Benzema passes club legend
With his two goals, Karim Benzema has made history. He passes club legend Raúl on Real’s all-time top scorer list. The Frenchman stands at 230 goals league goals after tonight, while the Spaniard has made 228.
Cristiano Ronaldo leads the list with 311 goals in La Liga.
