HBO’s The Last of Us series has convinced critics, judging by early reviews

The series of The Last of Us produced by HBO will begin in a few days, but international critics have had a chance to preview it, and judging from the early reviews we can expect a classy adaptation.
With a score of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, an aggregator site for movie and TV series reviews, virtually everyone who has seen it has liked The Last of Us series, despite some initial doubts. “It’s not just an adaptation of a hit video game. It’s a great series, period,” said the San Francisco Chronicle. “The Last of Us is not afraid to ask challenging questions that have no easy answers, or none at all. The fact that it has been so exceptionally and meticulously made means that it has actually broken the ceiling of video game adaptations,” Bloody Disgusting added.
“The Last of Us has the potential to cross generations and open the eyes of non-gamers to the level of depth, complexity and emotion that the medium can offer,” is the opinion instead of io9. “From the interpretations, to the storytelling, to the aesthetic elements, this is an exquisitely crafted adaptation. But it also asks viewers to absorb a lot of human misery without saying much that hasn’t already been heard on similar shows,” said TIME.
The story of The Last of Us takes place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a cunning survivor, is tasked with getting Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a quarantine zone under tight security. A seemingly easy task that soon turns into a brutal and harrowing journey, as the two will find themselves crossing the United States together and depending on each other to survive. The series creators and executive producers are Craig Mazin, Emmy winner for Chernobyl, and Neil Druckmann, creator of the original video game.
The Last of Us will be seen on Sky starting Jan. 16 in Italy. Naughty Dog recently revealed new concept art for The Last of Us multiplayer game, while a second season of the series is not to be ruled out.
