Sins of the Father is a new TV One movie inspired by a true story. The producers don’t specify which one inspired Sins of the Father. But those who watch true crime will think it’s loosely based on the Pauletta Burleson, Tracy Burleson murder case out of Houston, Texas. Prosecutors say Tracy Burleson, a respected pastor needed a hitman to kill his wife to collect the insurance money and live in luxury with his younger mistress, Tyonne Palmer. Tracy Burleson chose his own son, William Fuller, 21, to carry out the wicked deed.

On May 18, 2010, William Fuller gunned down Pauletta Burleson, 56, outside her Christian home. When detectives arrived, Tracy Burleson told them he found his wife dead in the driveway when he returned home after an argument. The killing shocked the neighborhood and the black church. Investigators unraveled a trail of greed, lust, and mystery in this unholy tale. Now, it will unfold in TV One’s new Sunday night movie—if it’s indeed the same story. If not, we’ll watch it anyway!

Sins of the Father Based on which True Story?

Most likely it’s inspired by the Burleson murder, and possibly a blend of a few others. Tracy Burleson was convicted of capital murder and handed a life sentence. He didn’t kill her. But he was the mastermind behind his wife’s death. His son, William Fuller, was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his stepmother, whom he despised. According to Chron, Tracy’s mistress, Tyonne Palmer, 32, was given seven years. The Burleson murder case became the focus of several documentaries. TV One’s true story movie, Sins of the Father, takes its direction from Jamal Hill. It is written by Katrina O’Gilvie and stars A.J. Johnson, Terayle Hill,  Deitrick Haddon, and Brandi Cohen.
