Christy Mirack was murdered by Raymond Rowe, aka DJ Freeze. Her story will be featured this Friday on Dateline NBC. Rohrerstown Elementary sixth-grade schoolteacher, Christy Mirack, was found dead in her Lancaster, Pennsylvania home in December of 1992. It took police 25 years to crack the baffling cold case. Raymond Rowe (DJ Freeze) was a popular DJ, who performed at weddings and parties around town. He lived his life knowing he had committed this horrible crime, a crime he kept secret for more than two decades. On Dateline NBC, you’ll hear from Christy’s friends.
It was several days before Christmas that year when Christy Mirack failed to show up to her teaching job. This aroused suspicion because the dedicated and energetic teacher would never miss work. Worried, the school administrator went to Christy’s home located at 2071 William Penn Way at the Greenfield Estates Complex in East Lampeter Township and made a grisly discovery.
Christy Mirack was dead. She had been (s. assaulted) and strangled to death. The teacher’s murder shocked students and faculty. There were no arrests. A witness told police a strange car was parked in front of her home. A witness also described seeing a white man with muscles.
Investigators were desperate to solve the case. But leads turned up nothing. Five years passed. Ten years passed. Twenty years slipped by. In 2003, the FBI released a profile of the killer. They were sure he had kept up with all the latest details in the investigation and that he’d keep up with any news coverage that aired about Christy Mirack to make sure his secret was still hidden. In 2009, her frustrated brother created a Facebook page to keep her memory alive and to provide a place for people to post tips if possible.
Periodically, family members would place signs with a dated photo of Christy Mirack. Her girlfriends had married and had become mothers. It seemed like everyone had moved on with their lives, everyone except for twenty-five-year-old Christy. In 2017, police released a composite sketch of the killer. And soon, they made an arrest. In 2018, DNA evidence linked Raymond Rowe (DJ Freeze) to the murder. A piece of chewing gum had been his undoing. Detectives arrested him peacefully at his Whittier Lane Home. In recent months, followers on his Facebook page said his posts had turned negative. But they were all shocked to know he would be involved in a crime like this heinous.
He was moved from Camp Hill on Wednesday.
His ex-lover, a woman he dated while he was married, later said she was also surprised to know he was the killer. She recalled how nasty he could be. He was emotionally abusive and often called her names. DJ Freeze was handsome, fun, and had taken pictures with celebrities like Paris Hilton and Sean Paul, according to LNP.
Andrea Canning’s report will detail how DNA and a genealogical database aided in the investigation. Watch Dateline tonight at 10/9 p.m. Central on NBC.
